The pulse of Southeast Asian contemporary art is growing ever stronger with the return of Art Jakarta 2023, Indonesia’s highly anticipated international art week. This year, Art Jakarta took place from 17–19 November 2023 at its new venue, JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, celebrating artistic expression on a grander scale supported by state-of-the-art facilities.
Following the success of last year’s edition, the fair further solidified its position as an indispensable platform for contemporary art exchange in Southeast Asia, anchored in the region’s largest art market. Marking a fresh chapter in its journey, Art Jakarta embraced the dynamism of its new venue, presenting a vibrant showcase of 70 national and international galleries, including 14 first-time participants.
This year, Art Jakarta welcomed galleries from across Indonesia and neighboring Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Expanding its international reach, exhibitors from China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, and Australia also joined the fair, presenting new works by their respective artists.
Two long-standing participants, Mizuma Gallery and Srisasanti Gallery, shared their reflections:
Beyond presenting exhibitions, Art Jakarta has consistently demonstrated its commitment to fostering discourse and inspiration through engaging talks, workshops, and panel discussions.
Art Jakarta thus stands as an international art week dedicated to amplifying the voices of contemporary Asian art. For the latest updates, visit artjakarta.com and follow @artjakarta on Instagram.
